Furnace Projects melds the power of artistic expression, the bounty of rural locations and the rhythm of seasonality. We create wine, accomodation and events and everything is centred around the people, places and produce of Herefordshire.

The nature and variety of what we deliver will develop and grow over time.

ABOUT What we do
Beth Derbyshire Furnace Project Art

Furnace Projects is seeking to provide a focus for the creative people or communities that are based or interested in Herefordshire.

S.T.E.W (Sometimes Everything is Wonderful) is a seasonal salon that pops up in Herefordshire, London and beyond. The first S.T.E.W took place in 2009 and has appeared periodically since then to provide an informal, experimental platform for artists and creative thinkers to present new work. At previous events we have been delighted to host writers, musicians and artists including Jonsi and Alex (Sigur Ros), Richard Strange, MC Kinky, Maria Marshall, Sue Hubbard, Richard Dyer, The Agency Gallery, William Hunt and Emma Gibson. â€‹

At S.T.E.W. events, attendees are offered a bowl of seasonal stew, accompanied by Furnace Wines, whilst relishing some cultural nutrition in the form of an artistic presentation, exhibition or performance.

GRAPE & GLORY
Furnace Projects Vineyard Yarkhill

We currently have 2 vineyards, the larger one, planted in 2010, is situated in Yarkhill, which has an Anglo-saxon origin. Lying in the valley of the River Frome, the soil and aspect of the region around Yarkhill make it ideal for growing grape varieties for producing wine. The vineyard contains a mixture of Bacchus, Phoenix, Pinot Noir, Regent, Rondo and Seyval Blanc vines.

Our smaller vineyard, planted in 2018, is situated near the village of St Weonards in beautiful unspoilt landscape on the 500 year old Treago Estate. Here we have planted Bacchus, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. This vineyard will used for experimental winemaking.

We look after and harvest our vines by hand and the grapes are processed nearby by the highly renowned Three Choirs Vineyard who work closely with us to deliver the characters and flavours that make our wine distinctive.

Blackbird Barn, is situated in the scenic hamlet of Llanwarne which is set deep in rolling Herefordshire countryside.  Llanwarne is a secret English Idyll that allegedly sits on five ley lines. The stunning ruined church of St John the Baptist and the Gamber Brook make Llanwarne a tranquil haven to visit. On clear nights, the sky is full of stars and it is often possible to hear the distinctive hoot of the local owls at dusk.

Blackbird Barn is also situated close to the Wye Valley, which features some of the most dramatic and scenic landscapes in southern Britain including Symond’s Yat and the Wye River. Both these areas have long been admired for their scenic beauty and provide a wealth of possible excursions and activities.
